Things are looking great for Chelsea at the moment, the team is sitting pretty on the log in third place just two points off Manchester City which is occupying the first position. Chelsea’s manager, on the other hand, has just set a new Premier League record of going through his first 10 Premier League matches unbeaten. Having started the season as an outsider to challenge for the Premier League season behind firm favourites Manchester City and Liverpool, Chelsea has shown that it can challenge and potentially cause an upset if it manages to continue putting in impressive performances.

The impressive run that Chelsea has had in the first part of the Premier League has forced many pundits and those who engage in sports betting to conclude that this team can actually win the league. While none can say with certainty if Chelsea is going to win the league or not, what’s clear is that in order to have a real shot, Chelsea needs to strengthen further as the other main challengers in Manchester City and Liverpool have arguably better squads. As such, here are two top players that Chelsea needs to look at with the aim of signing up as we draw closer to the January transfer window.

Mauro Icardi

The highest top scorer for Chelsea in the Premier League so far is Eden Hazard with 7 goals. While this is great for Hazard as the criticism levelled against him during his time at the club thus far mainly pertains to his poor goal return, it’s not such great news for Chelsea as a whole. This is not to say that Hazard’s goals are not precious for Chelsea but rather, Hazard should be competing with the team’s strikers in terms of goals. The main striker for Chelsea this season, Olivier Giroud (who has started most games) has scored zero goals in the Premier League while his backup, Alvaro Morata has just scored three goals. This on its own explains why Chelsea should go for a top striker such as Mauro Icardi who has shown over the past years that he can score goals consistently.

Aaron Ramsey

Looking at Chelsea’s midfield, one can reasonably state that there is no need to go out and buy another midfielder at least in the January transfer window. This is due to the impressive form of summer signing Jorginho, the workaholic Ngolo Kante, loan signing Mateo Kovacic and the rejuvenated Ross Barkley. Youngster Ruben Loftus Cheek has also shown that he has what it takes to perform at the highest level whenever given a chance while the likes of Danny Drinkwater who hasn’t had a sniff this season do possess the talent. However, Aaron Ramsey is in his final year at Arsenal and it looks like there is no deal in place. Coming at a cut-price, it will be great business for Chelsea to scoop the Welshman just so as to strengthen their squad ahead of the hectic end of the Premier League season and also other cup competitions.
